The traditional
flag hoisting ceremony was held at the High Commission for Pakistan, Canberra at
0900 hours on 14 August 2011, to celebrate the 65th Independence Day of
Pakistan. The ceremony was attended by a large number of Pakistani students,
Pakistan Armed Forces undergoing training in Australian institutions and members
of Pakistani community, living in Canberra.
The flag hoisting was carried out by the newly arrived High Commissioner of
Pakistan His Excellency, Mr. Abdul Malik Abdullah. After the flag hoisting,
messages of the President of Pakistan and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were
read out by the Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Tasawar Khan. The ceremony
concluded with collective prayers for the peace, progress and prosperity of the
people of Pakistan.
Following the ceremony, the High Commissioner freely interacted with the
community. He congratulated the community members on this auspicious day and
sensitized them on Government's efforts to strengthen the Pakistan's political
system and improving the economic performance of the country. The High
Commissioner urged the participants to support their Government in meeting
various challenges facing the Nation. He reminded them of their
responsibilities, as overseas Pakistanis, to protect national interests and
promote soft image of Pakistan.
