Local Government Fundraising update: $136,000 and more to come

(PEACC) At the last count, councils across New South Wales had already donated $136,000 to charities of their choice to support the victims of the South Asian Earthquake. The City of Sydney topped the list with $50,000 followed by Fairfield's pledge of $15,000, and Sutherland and Baulkham Hills donating $10,000 each.

PEACC is informed that a number of other councils are set to follow in December.

In addition to the above donations, a number of councils including Marrickville, Leichhardt, Ryde and City of Sydney have also conducted their own community and/or staff fundraising.

To express the gratitude of the Australian-Pakistani community, PEACC will be sending letters of thanks to all councils for their generosity. Together with its supporting organisation, PEACC is also planning on organising a "Thank You Australia" event on Sunday February 19th 2006 to thank everyone for their support of this worthy cause. Further details of this event will be made public at a later date.
