Bazm-e-Adab Canberra’s Mushaira in Tuggeranong Community Centre ACT

The Bazm-e-Adab Canberra was honored this year again to host “Aik Adaabi Shaam” with two famous poets Mr. Saeed Khan and Noshi Gilani from Sydney on Sunday 28th February 2010.

The evening was held in the Tuggeranong Community Centre Canberra and was attended by a large number of people from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Fiji communities. The High Commissioner of Pakistan Ms Fauzia Nasreen (Her Excellency) was the chief guest of the event and presided the Mushaira.

The Mushaira started at 7 Pm. Mrs. Tayyaba Butt was the MC of the night and welcomed everyone on behalf of Bazm-e-Adab. In her welcome speech she highlighted the Bazm’s history and its achievements since last 11 years of its inception. Tayyaba Butt also introduced the Bazm-e-Adab’s executive committee members for the year 2010-2011. She introduced the guests and local poets and called Mrs Khalida Qureshi (President Bazm-e-Adab), Ms Fauzia Nasreen , Mr. Saeed Khan and Noshi Gilani on stage to start the formal proceedings of the Mushaira.

The President of Bazm-e-Adab Mrs. Qureshi addressed the audience and highlighted the Bazm’s activities and its aim and objectives. She also appreciated support from Pakistan High commission and their staff for their participation throughout the years. The formal part of the evening ended after Mrs. Qureshi’s address and Mr. Nadeem Sheikh was called upon to host the formal poetry session.

The poetry session was started by Mr. Atique Siddique who recited his new & old poems and also recited a Naat in relation to the month of Rabi-Ul-Awal which was very much appreciated by the audience. After completion of local poets recitation Mr. Nadeem Sheikh called upon Mr. Saeed Khan to recite his poetry, Saeed Khan recited his poetry from his published books and had a big claps from the audience.

The very famous poet Noshi Gilani was also called upon as a last poet of the evening; she recited her poetry from her collection which was also appreciated by audience. She recited her ever lasting poems from her published books in Pakistan. She also recited a Naat and Hammed in relation to month of Rabi-ul-awal.

At the end of the Mushaira Mr. Omer Sheikh delivered the vote of thanks, and praised the sponsors of Bazm-e-Adab on this evening. After the vote of thanks the dinner was served. All guests enjoyed the food and appreciated Bazm-e-Adab for their excellent service and to host a quality function.
