FIRST YOUNG PAKISTANI WOMAN RUNNING FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

Sydney and the Australian Pakistani Community are proud to support Aisha Amjad,
who is one of the first young Pakistani’s running for the Local Government
Elections on September 8 2012.
Aisha has been endorsed by the ALP as a candidate of the Hills Shire Council
Sydney (North Ward).
Aisha has played an active and instrumental role in the Pakistani and broader
sub-continent communities. She is the Information Officer of the Pakistan
Association of Australia, and a Board Member of the Sub-continent Friends of
Labor organisation.
A lawyer by
profession, Aisha’s passion for politics led her to first work as a media/policy
Adviser for Laurie Ferguson in 2005, and also as an Adviser to Federal Minister
Tony Burke and Federal Member Ed Husic. She has also worked for the Australian
High Commissioner and the Australian Defence Adviser in Islamabad Pakistan.
Aisha’s interests are in social justice and local issues such as improved access
to and services in healthcare, childcare and transport. She enjoys working
closely with people from various backgrounds and believes her values from a
combined culture of Australia/Pakistan are the driving force in working hard to
make a difference.

Aisha will be holding a fundraising dinner for her election campaign on Friday 31 August. She is hoping to be supported by her fellow Pakistani’s as she begins her political journey to represent her local community and the broader sub-continent community.
