                                                 Aisha Amjad

FIRST YOUNG PAKISTANI WOMAN RUNNING FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

Sada-e-Watan Sydney and the Australian Pakistani Community are proud to support Aisha Amjad, who is one of the first young Pakistani’s running for the Local Government Elections on September 8 2012.

Aisha has been endorsed by the ALP as a candidate of the Hills Shire Council Sydney (North Ward).

Aisha has played an active and instrumental role in the Pakistani and broader sub-continent communities. She is the Information Officer of the Pakistan Association of Australia, and a Board Member of the Sub-continent Friends of Labor organisation.

A lawyer by profession, Aisha’s passion for politics led her to first work as a media/policy Adviser for Laurie Ferguson in 2005, and also as an Adviser to Federal Minister Tony Burke and Federal Member Ed Husic. She has also worked for the Australian High Commissioner and the Australian Defence Adviser in Islamabad Pakistan.

Aisha’s interests are in social justice and local issues such as improved access to and services in healthcare, childcare and transport. She enjoys working closely with people from various backgrounds and believes her values from a combined culture of Australia/Pakistan are the driving force in working hard to make a difference.
