Australian High Commissioner meets Chief Minister of Punjab Pervaiz Elahi

The Chief Minister of
Punjab, Ch. Pervaiz Elahi has said that Pakistan and Australia have a common
vision regarding elimination of terrorism for ensuring international peace and
both the countries are making extensive efforts for this purpose. He said that
peace and security are essential for development. He said that livestock has a
fundamental importance in agricultural economy of the province and the
government is spending a huge amount on strengthening of this sector under a
revolutionary action plan. Ch. Pervaiz Elahi was talking to Australian High
Commissioner in Pakistan Zorica McCarthy at Chief Minister's Secretariat Lahore.
The Chief Minister said that people of Pakistan have a positive thinking and
overseas Pakistani are playing an important role in the development of social
sector in their respective countries. He said that the measures taken for the
breeding of livestock, their food and marketing as well as protection of
livestock from diseases have yielded positive results. He said that livestock
sector has an important role in the stability of the national economy and is an
important source of income of poor farmers, therefore, government has extended
loans worth billions of rupees to the cattle farmers for purchasing cows and
buffaloes.
Ch. Pervaiz Elahi said that special measures have been taken for the provision
of infrastructure and rearing of the top breed of cow found in Cholistan. He
said that milk collection centers will also be established for ensuring due
returns to the farmers for their milk production. He said that Pakistani
investors are keen to import cows and other products from Australia. He said
that full benefit will be taken from the opportunities of mutual cooperation
between the two counties for the promotion of livestock sector. Ch. Pervaiz
Elahi further said that the economic policies of the government are aimed at
promotion of investment and protection of foreign capital due to which foreign
investors are taking keen interest in investment in different projects in the
province.
Chief Minister of Punjab said that the process of industrialization has
accelerated due to excellent industrial policies of the government which have
resulted in improvement of economy and poverty alleviation. He said that
national economy has stabilized due to efforts for strengthening of private
sector. He said that private sector has been given management affairs regarding
completion of various development projects. China, Saudi Arabia, United Arab
Emirates, Germany, Sweden and investors of other countries are making huge
investment due to the favourable investment climate made available in the
province, he added.
Ch. Pervaiz Elahi further said that the political system in Pakistan has been
placed on sound foundation and the current year is very important politically
due to presidential and general elections in the country. He said that friendly
and trade relations between Pakistan and Australia are improving with the
passage of time. He said that Australia extended all out cooperation for the
relief and rehabilitation of earth-quake affectees and the Australian medical
teams played an important role in providing medical assistance to the
calamity-stricken people for which we are deeply grateful.
Australian High Commissioner in Pakistan Zorica McCarthy said that with a wide
scope of trade cooperation between Australia and Pakistan, full benefit will be
taken from this opportunity.
