Australian Medical Team of 140 Travelling to Pakistan
Australia will send a 140-member medical team this week to earthquake-devastated areas as the approaching winter worsens the humanitarian crisis in Azad Kashmir, Prime Minister John Howard said on 9th November. The team will be Australia’s first contribution of personnel in response to the October 8 catastrophe and will cost up to 20 million Australian dollars , more than doubling Canberra’s pledge of emergency relief, PM Howard said. "Recent urgent calls by the Pakistan government, International relief agencies and the United Nations have been made to provide further assistance in view of the onset of harsh winter conditions and a worsening humanitarian crisis,". The High Commissioner of Pakistan Mr. Babar W. Malik thanks the Australian Government for their assistance to Pakistan.
