Australian Diplomats meet with PPP leaders in Lahore

Two Australian diplomats, in a meeting with PPP leaders, have pledged to monitor the next general elections in Pakistan, saying they want Pakistani people to use their right to vote in a free, fair and transparent manner. The Australian High Commission to Pakistan, Director South Asian Affairs Dr Peter and Second Secretary Political Mathew met PPP Punjab President Qasim Zia and PPP Punjab Secretary Information Naveed Chaudhry. While briefing the diplomats, the PPP leaders said that the government has violated the sanctity of vote, besides changing several results by rigging the local government elections. They said the opposition was demanding an independent election commission.

“The people want a strong democratic system in the country because due to the government’s wrong policies the present system can collapse any time,” Qasim said. Both the diplomats expressed grief over the loss of human lives in the earthquake in Pakistan and pledged every possible support from the Australian govt.
