The Consul General of Pakistan in Sydney and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps NSW Mr. Azam Mohammed gave a welcome dinner to the new High Commissioner His Excellency Abdul Malik Abdullah and introduced him to the community members.The Iftar Dinner was held at the Spice of Life Restaurant Harris Park Sydney on Saturday, 20 August 2011. In his welcome address, the host of the Function,Consul General Azam Sahib thanked the High Commissioner for visiting Sydney to meet with the Community.He particularly thanked the High Commissioner for his initiatives in this regard.
The Consul General Azam Mohammed informed of the services of the HC who had served in Japan, USA, Senegal and Germany. He also highlighted his important posts held in Pakistan including his recent most posting as Additional Secretary at the Prime Minister Secretariat Islamabad.
The CG Azam in his welcome address informed of the High Commissioner's desire to meet all segments of the Community. He informed that the High Commissioner was invited by many different community organisations but the HC set the precedence of the mission inviting all segments of community first. This ensured maximum representation of all community organisations in the first meeting of the High Commissioner in Sydney.He also briefed the HC on the Pakistan Australia Community and highlighted both their successes in Australia, their generous contribution for Pakistan and their concerns. He thanked the community members for their presence despite their busy schedule on a day of fasting. This he said showed the affection the Community has for Pakistan.
The HC,His Excellency Abdul Malik Abdullah thanked the community leaders for their presence and warm welcome. He informed he always believed in carrying the community with him as one entity and service to the Community is one of the prime function of the mission. The High Commissioner assured them that for him all Pakistanis and all Pakistani origin Australians are of equal respect and importance, regardless of any affiliations, beliefs, region etc and that is why he is meeting with them all today under one roof instead of meeting them separately.H.E. Abdul Malik Abdullah was happy to note that all groups were united and one as far as love for and interests of Pakistan is concerned. He expressed the hope that in future too, this unity would continue to be demonstrated.
The new High Commissioner His Excellency Abdul Malik Abdulla have an assessment of where Pakistan stands today, the recent achievements and challenges and emphasised that all challenges can be overcome when each citizen plays his rightful role and performs his duty with full sense of responsibility.
His Excellency Abdul Malik Abdullah assured the community that his doors will always be open for every one and sincere efforts would be made to solve all legitimate problems.He said in this first meeting he was more interested in listening to the worthy guests and opened the floor for comments and feedback from all those who wanted to comment. Over 25 community members gave their views and comments, each point raised by them was responded to by the High Commissioner point by point.
