Federal Member for Greenway Hon. Michelle Rowland welcomes Foreign Minister Senator Bob Carr’s official visit to India
Federal Member for Greenway and Co-Chair of the Sub-Continent Ministerial Consultative Committee, Hon. Michelle Rowland has welcomed Foreign Minister Senator Bob Carr’s official visit to India in the coming days. Ms Rowland said Minister Carr’s trip follows the Prime Minister’s and Treasurer’s respective visits in 2012 and highlights Australia’s commitment to the Australia-India relationship.
“I, along with my constituents from the Indian-Australian community, am very pleased the Minister for Foreign Affairs will soon be visiting India,” Ms Rowland said.
“It is my hope that Foreign Minister Hon. Bob Carr progresses uranium talks with India and engages on issues of education and trade.”
Rowland MP said
a number of her constituents also expressed to her concern over the recent rape
cases in India.
“A number of constituents have expressed their concern regarding the tragic rape incidents that have occurred over recent weeks and months,” Ms Rowland said.
“I would encourage the Foreign Minister to raise this with the Indian Government and see if the Australian Government can offer any assistance in any way.”
