Pakistani Students organised Pakistan's Independence Day Function in Sydney

(Exclusive Coverage by Syed Zafar Hussain)

On the 17th of August, a small group of Pakistani-Australian university students formed a committee and organised a dinner to celebrate Pakistan's 60th Anniversary. The late celebration was held at Bundu Khan, a Pakistani restaurant located in Auburn Sydney. The main organizers of this function were Mr. Omar Hameed, Miss. Sumaira Hoda, and Miss. Ameena Rahmatullah.
The guest list included 50 people, consisting of Pakistani youth from different schools, universities and workplaces. The dinner was aimed at not only celebrating this occasion but was largely aimed at forming a Pakistani youth community which can remain consistent and whilst expanding, meet on a regular basis to discuss political issues, maintain cultural values and traditions and a sense of belonging that all Pakistani children growing up in a western environment need to maintain their identities.
The dinner was kindly assisted by Kamil and Nasir, who made a tremendous effort to not only ensure the food was of a high standard, but to decorate the inside of the restaurant with Pakistani flags and custom-made signs to mark this occasion. The entertainment apart from a lively collection of songs compiled by the organisers, consisted of an entertaining trivia quiz based on questions relating to Pakistan, as well as an Urdu competition where amusing phrases were translated from English into Urdu or Punjabi.
