Consul General of Pakistan explained facilities extended to overseas Pakistanis
Dear Zafar Sahib,
This year, the new elected
Government of Pakistan announced steps to further facilitate overseas Pakistani
who play a very important and positive role in contributing to the economy of
Pakistan.
In Trade Policy 2008-2009, the following new steps were announced:
1. Last year, buses not older than 3 years were allowed to be imported under the
Transfer of Residence Scheme for overseas Pakistanis. However, 3 years old bus
price do not fall sharply and thus benefit to returning Pakistanis may not have
been much. To give them more facility and to ease transport problem, it has been
decided in TP 08-09 to allow import of buses ,under TR , which are not more than
5 years.
2. One of the condition under TR was production of driving license. Many
deserving overseas Pakistani could not bring vehicle because of this condition.
Thus the requirement of driving license have been done away.
3. Many returning Pakistanis faced problems in bringing car under TR for several
reasons and thus could not release their car. Permission for reshipment of the
car was cumbersome and time consuming. In order to alleviate their problems, in
case they are unable to release their vehicle due to high tariff or other
reasons, re-export of such vehicle is now allowed by FBR if there was no
contravention of the Import Policy Order during import stage.
I hope the above would be of use to the readers of Sada-e-Watan.
Best Regards,
Azam Mohammed
