Amir of Kuwait will donate $1.4 million to Canberra Islamic Centre
Assalaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
As conveyed in the previous Canberra Islamic Centre (CIC) Masjid Construction Update of 28 March 2016, the Executive Committee (EC) of the Canberra Islamic Centre, by the Grace of Allah (SWT), advises members that as a result of the many EC submissions seeking funding made to various national and international organisations over the last three years, we have received official confirmation from the State of Kuwait offering their support.
Allhumdullilah, we are pleased to confirm that this donor will provide $1.4 million, which will insha'Allah assist in completing the construction of the CIC Phase 2 Project consisting of the Masjid and Islamic education centre. The CIC commenced the construction work, financially supported by its members, almost two years ago.
The EC plans to sign a funding agreement with the Embassy of Kuwait on 12 April 2016. Under this funding agreement, CIC will receive milestone payments as stages of construction are completed.
The existing governance and administration of the CIC is in no way affected by this funding agreement. The elected EC will continue to operate under the existing CIC constitution.
In recognition of the substantial financial support offered by the Amir of Kuwait, the project is proposed to be named Ahmad Al Sabah Masjid and Islamic Education Centre.
An information session will be held at the next monthly gathering on Saturday 9 April 2016 to provide details of the funding arrangement and to give members the opportunity to ask questions. Please join us for this gathering, the timeing and other details will be emailed shortly.
The EC requests members to continue to donate generously to the CIC, as they have done in the past so that CIC can continue to maintain the complex infrastructure and continue to provide quality services to the community.
