Condolences for the Mother of Shahnaz Hyder- Begum Aliya Khatoon Siddiqui
Dear Mr Zafar Hussain,
I write to you to express my sincere sadness on the passing of Begum Aliya Khatoon Siddiqui, may she rest in peace. I want to convey through your website my condolences to her family and to SAMAA and to the South Asia Muslim community and to all who cared and loved Begum Siddiqui whom I had the pleasure of meeting at the most recent SAMAA annual function.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Sada-e-Watan and You Mr Zafar Hussain and all yours family of Sada-e-Watan for keep me and all in the community informed of community affairs.
On the 16th of June 2011, I gave notice of my intention to give move the enclosed notice of motion.Today, the 22nd of June, I have formally moved and the Legislative Council of NSW adopted as formal business of the House my motion, in which the legislative Council thereby expressed its condolences on the passing of Begum Aliya Khatoon Siddiqui, to her family, to SAMAA and to the South Asian Muslim community.

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL -NOTICE OF MOTION
Mr Moselmane says—
Mr PRESIDENT:
I give notice that on the next sitting day I will move:
1. That this House notes that:
(a) the senior most South Asian Muslim of Sydney Begum Aliya Khatoon Siddiqui passed away on Sunday 12 June at Royal North Shore hospital after a brief illness,
(b) her funeral was held on Sunday 13 June 2011 at Lakemba mosque and the burial at Rookwood cemetery,
(c) born in the north Indian city of Merrut in November 1910, Begum Aliya Khatoon, the granddaughter of famous Urdu poet Ismail Merruti, lived in Sydney for well over 30 years with her daughter Begum Shahnaz Hyder, the noted ghazal singer and radio broadcaster,
(d) Begum Aliya migrated to Lahore during partition and then settled in Karachi,
(e) Begum Aliya's husband, Mr Salahuddin Siddiqui, passed away soon after coming to Pakistan and she was left with two daughters aged nine and two, whom she raised with the utmost love and care,
(f) Begum Aliya lived with Shahnaz Hyder since then in Karachi, Beirut and Sydney, where she lived for the past twenty years on her own in an apartment in Kirribilli before spending the last few months in a nursing home,
(g) the South Asian Muslim Association of Australia (SAMAA) celebrated her 100th birthday in November 2010, and then at its annual event on 12 March 2011,
(h) Begum Aliya received congratulatory messages from parliamentarians, the Prime Minister, the Governor General and the Queen which she most cherished.
