Australian envoy of counter terrorism committee Mike Smith is visiting Pakistan
Australian envoy of counter terrorism committee Mike Smith called on Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and discussed the issue of counter-terrorism and cooperation. Mr. Sherpao said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Australia which have continued to grow over the years. The Minister for Interior said that Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and being a frontline-state in the war against terrorism "the government is fully committed to root out the menace."
The meeting was attended by Federal Secretary Syed Kamal Shah, Additional Secretary Chaudhry Qamar Zaman and Director General National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC), Brig (R) Javed Iqbal Cheema. He said that Pakistan and Australia are cooperating with each other in diverse fields and the cooperation will gain momentum in the coming days.
Mr. Sherpao said the country's image has enhanced all over the world due to vision of enlightened moderation enunciated by President General Pervez Musharraf. He reiterated the government's resolve to maintain law and order in the country and protect lives and properties of people and said all resources were being utilized for the purpose.
He underscored that Pakistan is a peace loving country and "we will continue our efforts on all international forums including UN for global peace." Earlier, Mike Smith briefed the Minister about the activities of the committee and lauded the efforts being launched by the government of Pakistan to eliminate terrorism.
