Government of NSW hosted a Deepavali Celebration at the Parliament House Sydney

The NSW Premier The Hon Barry O’Farrell & Minister for Citizenship and Communities Hon.Victor Dominello hosted a Deepavali Celebration Reception at the state Parliament of New South Wales. The function was held on the evening of Thursday, 10th November 2011 at the Dining Room of NSW Parliament. The Chairman of the Community Relations Commission’s of NSW Mr Stepan Kerkyasharian was MC.
The Deepavali Celebration was attended by diplomat’s representing a number of foreign governments, NSW Government Ministers, Members of Parliament, Selected Media Personalities, Commissioners of government agencies, Religious Scholars & Community Leaders from diverse ethnic backgrounds. At the Deepavali Celebration,there were not only leaders from the Indian Community but also leaders from other faiths as well as politician’s. There were nearly 300 people who attended the Deepavali Celebration at NSW Parliament House Strangers Dining Room.
The Minister for Citizenship and Communities Hon.Victor Dominello welcome the guests and said Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, Hindu and Christian living peacefully in the multicultural New South Wales.Minister Victor Dominello said that Indeed, we here are many lanterns – but our light is very much the same.Minister Victor said,I visited India and I understand Indian nice culture and Great Values.He said that Deepavali is the most widely celebrated festival of the people of the Indian sub-continental heritage. Deepavali means rows of lights.It is the festival symbolising dispelling of darkness, myths and perceptions with knowledge represented by light.
The Consul General of India in Sydney Mr.Amit Dasgupta said he feeling deeply honoured to be inside NSW Parliament on this unique occasion of Deepavali.The Indian CG also welcomes the NSW Premier the Hon Barry O’Farrell’s visit to India. He said that India Australia friendship will be stronger in future.
The opposition leader NSW Hon. John Robertson & Member for Parramatta Dr Geoffrey LEE Congratulates Indian community on the occasion of Deepavali Celebration.The Indian dancers present beautiful dances and greeting songs.
After some interesting discussions with Indian Guests The Hon Barry O’Farrell gave a very well versed speech in which he told of the contributions of Indian to Australia.Premier The Hon Barry O’Farrell said that It is an honour as Premier to join this distinguished company of religious leaders and top level community members of Indian sub continent at this important religious celebration of Deepavali.The Premier said that he is highly respecting Indian Australian community and we are here together from many backgrounds in support of our fellow Australians.
Honourable Barry O’Farrell said that tonight gathering is indicative of the importance to NSW and to my Government of creating a harmonious community. Premier said that my Government is starting a official great tradition in New South Wales Parliament of holding a Deepavali function and we Liberal will continue this tradition in future.
The NSW Premier The Hon Barry O’Farrell said Deepavali means rows of lights. It is the festival symbolising dispelling of darkness, myths and perceptions with knowledge represented by light. This celebration helps us share our riches with the broader community and this in turn strengthens the society at large by building intercommunity relationships.Premier
