Advisor High Commission for Pakistan Australia arranged a Pak’s Defence Day
Reception on Monday 13 Oct 2008 from 12.15 to 13.45 in Ottoman Cuisine, Barton
Canberra. The Pakistan’s Defence Day reception was attended by Australian
dignities, diplomats and community leaders including President Pakistan
Association of Australia Mr. Ejaz Khan. Host of the function Brigadier Babar
Mansoor Virk welcomed all respected guests and said in his speech,
Air Chief Marshal, Angus Houston, AC, AFC – Chief of the Defence Force, High
Commissioner for Pakistan, Mr. Jalil Abbas Jilani, respected Ladies and
Gentlemen;
On behalf of the Pakistan Armed Forces, I and my wife Attia, warmly welcome you
on the Pakistan Armed Forces Day, known as the Defence Day. We are indeed
honoured with your presence and very grateful to you all for joining us today.
The Defence Day is celebrated on the 6th of September every year since 1965 War,
to commemorate the supreme sacrifices made by our gallant soldiers, sailors and
airmen in the defence of our motherland. This day also stands out, as a symbol
of our enduring display of Unity, Faith and Discipline as a Nation. Before I
request the High Commissioner to say a few words, we will have a Defence Forces
Song and some Powerpoint slides to introduce Pakistan Armed Forces.
He then requested His Excellency Mr. Jalil Abbas Jilani to say a few words on
this occasion. High Commissioner Syed Jilani thanked Air Chief Marshal Angus
Houston & other guests for joining the reception. He said that the people of
Pakistan felt proud of the sacrifices made by our defence forces. Jalil Jilani
said that Pakistan is one of the largest contributors of the United Nations
peace keeping force. High Commissioner of Pakistan said that Terrorism is the
biggest challenge for Pakistan and we have lost more than 1500 members of the
security forces during the Military operation in Pakistan.
