Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Senator Hon. Bob Carr meets with Pakistan’s Federal Minister Dr M.Farooq Sattar

On the evening of Monday, 21 May 2012, Senator the Hon Bob Carr, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, today met with His Excellency Dr Muhammad Farooq Sattar, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and with the Pakistan High Commissioner, His Excellency Mr Abdul Malik Abdullah, to discuss and build upon existing strong Australia-Pakistan relations.

Minister Carr emphasised Australia's enhanced relationship with Pakistan, including increased development assistance, law enforcement initiatives and agricultural programs.

The Minister welcomed Australia's strong links with the Pakistani people, including through the Pakistani community in Australia.

Minister Carr particularly welcomed the continued growth in the number of Pakistani students in Australia, with around 6,800 Pakistani students presently enrolled in Australian schools and universities.
