Tragic Death of Shahnaz Qidwai

Exclusive scoop by Editor-in-Chief Syed Zafar Hussain.

Shahnaz Qidwai, the wife of well-known Sydney Doctor, Dr. Khalid Aziz Qidwai has been found dead today at the Qidwai family home in Henley. Dr. Qidwai and his late wife arrived in Australia from India nearly 40 years ago. They were respected members of the community here in Sydney. Both were very good people and attended most functions and weddings. They openly donated to many charitable causes and they also met with visiting army officers and other dignitaries from India and Pakistan. Mr. & Mrs. Qidwai had been married for 45 years and recently just arrived back in Sydney after a trip to Turkey.

Dr. Qidwai is a surgeon based in Croydon and his wife has previously worked as his receptionist. They have four children, three daughters Sannah, Hannah and Maha aswell as one son, Faisal. The children are all employed in the medical field and one is a lawyer.

Members of the Indian Sub continental community including Pakistani-Australians, Indian-Australians, Nepali-Australians, Bangladeshi-Australians and Sri Lankan-Australians are today shocked as Mrs. Shahnaz Qidwai, 65, was found dead at her family mansion in Henley. Her daughter came home and found her dead mother’s body on the floor inside the house at around 2pm. The cause of death is yet unknown though there is talk that she was murdered. Dr. Qidwai has previously had some issues with the Medical Council of NSW for alleged professional misconduct but those issues have been settled for more than 10 years now. Other than this the family have never had any issues with the law or any problems with community members ever before. It is quite strange for an elderly woman to be murdered and for no valuables or belongings to go missing. We will keep our readers informed of any further developments. We do however know that two concreters were present at the Qidwai residence this afternoon before the murder as they were working on a driveway for the family’s home. Gladesville police and Homicide detectives are treating the death as ‘suspicious’ at this stage and will search surrounding areas for evidence through the night.

Mrs. Qidwai’s funeral will be held at Lakemba Mosque in Sydney and is expected to be attended by up to 500 people. The editorial board at Sada-e-Watan Sydney would like to extend their condolences to the Qidwai family at this tough time.
