Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan got one year Extension

Diplomatic sources informed Sada-e-Watan that Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs extended one year tenure for the current Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan. There were a few names of the carrier diplomats for consideration as a new Australian High Commissioner but Australian Government appreciated the efforts for promoting friendly relations between Pakistan & Australia by Australian envoy. Present High Commissioner Ms. Zorica McCarthy is appointed in Islamabad since August  2004.

Ms Zorica McCarthy is an experienced career diplomat. Prior to her appointment as Ambassador, Ms McCarthy was Assistant Secretary, Executive, Planning and Evaluation Branch. Ms McCarthy joined the Department in 1974. She has served as Third Secretary Rome (1974-1975), Third Secretary/later Second Secretary Port Moresby (1977-1979), a member of the Australian Delegation to the United Nations in New York (1981), Counsellor Washington (1991-1995) and Minister, Seoul (1998-2001).
In Canberra, Ms McCarthy was a desk officer for Papua New Guinea (1975-1976, 1979-1980) and in the Indonesia and South Pacific Bilateral Sections (1984), Director of the Japan Section (1989), and Assistant Secretary, Europe Branch (2002).
Ms McCarthy was Regional Director of the Department’s South Australian office (1986-1988) and undertook a secondment to the Department of Defence (1990). She worked at the Office of National Assessments as Assistant Secretary, Current Intelligence and Intelligence Community Branch (1995-1996) and Assistant Secretary, Executive Branch (1997-1998).
Ms McCarthy has an arts degree from the Flinders University of South Australia. She has two daughters.
