Farewell Dinner in Canberra for Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan Mr Tanveer Khaskheli
Pakistani community in Canberra (Ahaliyan-i-Canberra) arranged a farewell dinner on Friday, 25 July 2008 in honour of Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan, Mr Tanweer Khaskheli, who is leaving Australia to assume his duties as an Ambassador in Kyrghazistan. His Excellency Mr Jalil Abbas Jilani, High Commissioner of Pakistan attended the dinner.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Jilani acknowledged the efforts of Mr Khaskheli in his role as Deputy High Commissioner. This was followed by some brief speeches from the community members, which included Mr Sultan Bhimani, Mr Rauf Raheem, Mr Javed Butt, Mrs. Yasmin Qureshi and Mr Mohammed Ali, who was also master of the ceremony. Mr Khaskheli in his farewell speech thanked Ahaliyan-i-Canberra and all Pakistanis in Australia for making his stay fruitful and productive. He further said that he and his family will always remember Australia and will miss serenity of Canberra.
After Mr Kahskheli's
speech, a plaque was presented to him by Mr Sultan Bhimani. This plaque was a
recognition, in metal, of Mr Khaskheli's friendly attitude and his attempts to
improve Pakistan's image in Australia. A similar plaque was presented to Mr
Sarfraz Khanzada two years ago when he left Australia to join Pakistan Embassy
in Saudi Arabia as Deputy High Commissioner.
The organising committee should be appreciated for their efforts to make the
evening a memorable one. These included Mr Nadeem Sheikh, Mr Sultan Bhimani, Mr
Rauf Raheem, Mr Javed Butt and Mr Mohammed Ali.
One of the highlights of the dinner was its relaxed environment. All families who attended the dinner enjoyed its every moment. Good food, friendly company, kuch purani yaadain (some remembrances of the past), janay waloon kai mustaqbil kailiyay naik khuwahishat (best wishes for those who were leaving), Pakistan kai behter mustaqbil kai liyay du'aain (heart felt prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan), all was part of the evening and all this was seen by Mr Nadeem Sheikh through his camera.
