Federal Minister Humayun Akhtar has arrived in Sydney

Federal Minister of Commerce Mr. Humayun Akhtar Khan has arrived in Sydney on Monday
18th September in the evening. The Federal Secretary of Pakistan’s Commerce
Ministry, Mr. Asif Shah & other high level officers also accompanied him as
members of official delegation of Pakistan. The Consul General of Pakistan Mr.
Azam Mohammed welcomed them at Sydney International Airport.
Mr. Humayun Akhtar Khan is the head of the delegation for Australia to attend
the Cairns group meeting in Cairns. Mr. Humayun Akhtar will represent Pakistan
at the meeting scheduled for September 20-22 in Australia to be attended by
ministers from 18 farm exporting countries.
On the afternoon of Tuesday 19th September, Mr. Humayun Akhtar Khan attended the
Pakistan’s Trade Exhibition at Mercure Hotel, George Street Sydney. The
exhibition was arranged by fifteen members of the Pakistani Trade Delegation
with the cooperation of Pakistan Consulate Sydney.

Mr. Humayun Akhtar Khan,
Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce (since 2002) is the son of late General
Akhtar AbdulRehman. He spearheads business and commercial
reforms in the country during a phase of extraordinary economic and trade
turnaround. This period recorded exponential growth in exports and revenues. Far
reaching structural reforms, underpinned by business support institutions and
mechanisms, are the key features of this era. Earlier, as Minister of State for
Investment (1997-99), Mr. Khan was responsible for liberalizing the investment
regime of the country.
Mr. Khan is an elected member of the national parliament, a confidence that his
urban constituency in Lahore has repeatedly reposed in him since the last four
general elections. Electoral backing from an industrial and business metropolis
of Pakistan has helped shape his reform program. Apart from political
representation, Mr. Khan oversees a family Trust that provides medical,
educational and training services for vulnerable people.
Born in 1955, Mr. Humayun Akhtar Khan is a Fellow of the U.S Society of
Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He holds a Masters in
Actuarial and Business Mathematics from the University of Manitoba, Canada with
concentration in investments and risk calculations. His vision, backed by
continued interest in academics and scholarship, is the development of a
business-led prosperous Pakistan, robustly integrated into the world economy.
Mr. Khan pursues physical fitness. He is married and has one son and two
daughters
