On Monday evening 3/7/06 Harper Collins publications held a function at the Royal Automobile Club of Sydney for former Wallaby great Peter Fitzsimons who recently launched his latest book Tobruk. Peter has written over 13 books now including the best selling book Kokoda. He has written Kim Beazley's autobiography as well as Steven Waughs just to name a few. He also appears on 2UE radian in the morning with Mike Carlton, on Fox Sports Back Page program and is a regular writer for the Sydney Morning Herald and Sun-Herald. He has interviewed people such as George Bush to Diego Maradona as well. Peter also appears on Channel Nine from time to time as well is one of the top after dinner speakers in Australia. The function was attended by over 300 people and the chief guest to launch the book was The Hon. Kim Beazley, Leader of the Opposition, with Mike Carlton as MC. The ceremony was also privileged to have the "Rats of Tobruk" from the second world war, which is the association of the Tobruk Australian Army officers of all those years back. Other dignitaries that attended included Lisa Wilkinson (Channel 7 presenter and former CLEO editor and wife of Peter Fitzsimons), Stephen Loosley high profile ALP member, Deborah Thomas (Editor Women's Weekly), Nick Farr-Jones (former Wallaby Great), John Eales (former Wallaby great), Mike Carlton and Mike Gibson from Foxtel.
It was great to note the special relationships the Australian soldiers back then had with the pre-partition Indian army who would only recognise the Australians via their rising sun badges on their uniform as they could not understand each other.
