Inaugurated Habib Bank Representative Office in Beijing

Mr. Humayun Akhtar Khan inaugurated the establishment of Habib Bank Limited Beijing Representative Office on Wednesday 22nd February 2006. Mr. Sultan Allana Chairman Habib Bank Limited, Mr. Shahid Mahmood Commercial Consular, Mr. Shan Bianjiang Chairman Urumqi City Commercial Bank, Mr. Bai Hua Vice Mayor Urumqi, Mr. Zhang Xiaodi Deputy Director General Foreign Affairs Office, officers from China Banking Regulatory Commission, senior bankers from Bank of China, Export Import Bank of China, Agriculture Bank of China, CITIC Bank, ICBC, China Construction Bank & CEOs of major Chinese companies were present in the ceremony. Mr. Mohammad Aslam EVP & RGM Pacific Region who was given this important task of establishing the office in Beijing for entry in to China Banking Sector has successfully established the office of a very high standard, true Representative of the largest private Bank of Pakistan. Mr. Aslam surprised the audience & the Federal Minister by delivering his welcome speech in Chinese.
Earlier on 21st February 2006, in presence of General Pervez Musharraf President of Pakistan, Habib Bank Limited & Urumqi City Commercial Bank signed a MOU which will lead to up to 20% equity participation subject to regulatory approvals, by Habib Bank Limited in Urumqi City Commercial Bank. This is the first time any Pakistani bank has signed such land mark document for entry in to Chinese banking sector. Mr. Sultan Allana Chairman Habib Bank Limited assured the audience that Habib Bank is fully committed to China and will play its due role for promoting trade between China & Pakistan.
Mr. Humayun Akhtar Khan in his address praised the efforts of the Chief Representative for creating an opportunity with in a short period of time. He said Habib Bank Limited, the largest private bank of Pakistan has really shown great progress since privatisation and has taken many new initiatives. He assured the Chairman of Urumqi City Commercial Bank that they will benefit more from the experience & international network of Habib Bank through this new relationship. Mr. Ismayil Talawaldi, the governor of Xinjiang Autonomous Region had specially travelled to Beijing to join in the signing ceremony of MOU.
