The Acting High Commissioner Tasawar Khan hosted a Lunch in honour of the Australian High Commissioner Tim George
"Mr. Tasawar Khan, Acting High
Commissioner of Pakistan, hosted a lunch for High Commissioner of Australia to
Pakistan His Excellency Mr. Tim George, during his visit to Canberra on 09
February 2011. Mr. Tasawar offered condolences and sympathy on the loss of
precious lives and devastation caused by recent calamities in Queensland. He
briefed the High Commissioner on the efforts made by various Pakistani community
associations to collect funds and provide relief and support to the affected
persons. He particularly mentioned the Pakistani Doctors Association in
Brisbane, which immediate offered its services to the rescue and relief
authorities in Brisbane.
The Acting High Commissioner thanked the Australian Government for its generous
development assistance to Pakistan and for its quick response to various
disaster situations in Pakistan. The matters relating to Pakistani students and
grant of 100 agriculture scholarships, announced by the then Prime Minister of
Australia at first FODP Summit in New York, were also discussed. He appreciated
Mr. Tim’s personal contribution to the deepening of Australia’s engagement with
Pakistan.
They discussed various aspects of bilateral relations between the two countries
and broached various avenues to further strengthen these relations. The
monitoring of follow up action on the decisions taken by the last Joint Trade
Committee in Islamabad and prospects of Australian investment in Pakistan’s
mining sector were also discussed. The Australian High Commissioner informed
about the revamping of Pakistan-Australia Business Council in Pakistan, to
promote trade relations between the two countries. The possibility of exchange
of parliamentary delegations between the two countries in the near future was
also explored."
