Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammadmian Soomro gave approval for the promotion of ten officers of Foreign Ministry from BS-20- to BS-21. The FSP Officers who have been promoted from BS-20-BS21 are including High Commissioner of Pakistan to Australia Syed Jalil Abbas Jilani.

Mr. Jalil Abbas Jilani presented his Letters of Commission as the High Commissioner for Pakistan to Australia to the Governor General Major General (Retd) Michael Jeffery at a ceremony at the Government House Canberra on 22 June 2007. Before this appointment to Australia, he was serving as Director General at the Headquarters of Ministry of the Foreign affairs since February 2003.
Syed Jalil Abbas Jilani holds a Bachelors degree in Law, and Masters degree in Defence and Strategic Studies. Mr. Jilani joined Foreign Service of Pakistan in March 1979 and served at the Headquarters as Section Officer (1981-1982) and Director (1992-1995). He served as Deputy Secretary at Prime Minister’s Secretariat (1982-1992) and held various diplomatic assignments in Pakistan’s Mission abroad including Jeddah (1983-1985), London (1985-1988), Washington (1995-1999) and New Delhi (1999-2003). Mr. Jalil Abbas Jilani also served as spokesman at the Headquarters from February to August 2005. He is married with three children.
