A flag hoisting ceremony to celebrate the 64th Independence Day was held at Pakistan Embassy Brussels on Saturday 14th August 2010.Before starting Ramzan, there was also few community functions for celebration of Independence Day of Pakistan.

The Ambassador of Pakistan to Belgium, Luxembourg and European Union Syed Jalil Abbas Jilani hoisted the national flag with National anthem playing in the background in a simple but graceful and dignified ceremony. It was largely attended by Pakistani community residing in Brussels and its suburban areas and the officials of the embassy.

The Independence Day messages of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani were read out on this occasion. In their separate messages they expressed sorrow over the devastation caused by unprecedented floods that has caused human casualties, damaged roads & telecommunication infrastructure and destroyed crops at massive scale.

According to UN assessment, the total damage done by these raging floods is more than what the World suffered in Tsunami in 2004 and what Pakistan had to face in the aftermath of earthquake in October 2005.
