Senator Mola Baksh Chandio

Legal representatives from more than 50 Commonwealth countries are expected to attend the triennial Commonwealth Law Ministers meeting taking place from July 11 to 14 in Sydney. CLMM 2011 will be held 12-14 July 2011. The Senior Officials of Law Ministries (SOLM) Meeting will be held 11 July 2011. Both meetings will take place at the InterContinental Hotel Sydney, Australia.

The Federal Law Minister of Pakistan Senator Mola Baksh Chandio will be head of the Ministry of Law delegation. The meeting, which will be hosted by Australian Attorney-General Robert McClelland, will provide an opportunity for the First Law Officers of the Commonwealth of Nations to discuss law and justice issues of common concern, including counter-terrorism, crime prevention, human rights, access to justice and intellectual property. The Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma will inaugurate the conference.

The Pacific Young Lawyers Forum will be held during the day on Sunday 10 July 2011 at the University of Sydney Law School. The Forum will bring together young Pacific lawyers, Pacific Law Ministers, Pacific Law Society members and representatives from the Australian legal profession, to explore the unique challenges that face young and newly-admitted lawyers in Commonwealth Pacific countries.

The Women of Agents of Change forum will be held during the evening of Wednesday 13 July 2011 at NSW Government House. The forum will focus on social justice issues affecting women in the Commonwealth.  The event will make a positive contribution to the international discussion on matters like eliminating violence against women, gender equality, and issues faced by women in the legal profession. Law Ministers and other invited guests will be invited to listen to a panel of guest speakers and engage in group discussion. Most of delegates include ministers and senior officials from Commonwealth member states.
