Sydney City Council Launched a Photography Exhibition of Louise Whelan

On Thursday, the 17th of March the City of Sydney Council Launched a photography exhibition of Miss Louise Whelan who is photographing all 150 ethnic communities in NSW for a State Parliament project to be launched in 2012.

The exhibition is at Pine St Studios, 64 Pine St Chippendale (off Cleveland St, near Seymour Centre/Sydney University) and is part of the Living In Harmony Festival the City of Sydney Council runs every day until March 26. The entrance is free and it runs until 26th March 2011.

For a Pakistani photograph she had Mr Kashif Amjad and his nephew Miraan Khan in traditional Shalwar Kameez in a serious pose with Khusa on a traditional Pakistani wooden swing (Jhoola). Many other communities have participated including Sikh, Chinese, Turkish, Lebanese and Sudanese just to name a few.

SBS News will display the launch on Monday March 21, 2011 as over 200 people attended the studio and dinner was served with foods from all cultures, including interviews with Kashif Amjad and Louise Whelan and some of the other people appearing the photos. Mr Kashif Amjad was quoted as part of an interview to SBS News that “if we can fit 150 ethnic communities into one small then there is plenty of space in Australia for all of us to live peacefully, and people like Pauline Hanson need to see that 99% of migrants wish to live in peace and show their background whilst living in Australia and adopting Australian values. If an Australian moved to Pakistan for example it would wrong to assume he would not celebrate Australia Day on January 26 or watch the NRL Grand Final Match or feel like a meat pie or Pavlov from time to time.”

Ms Louise Whelan will throughout the year be taking different photographs of the Pakistani community and will attend some community events to capture these moments. For more information, the readers of Sada-e-Watan can visit this Link:
