Pakistan attended Non-proliferation commission Conference in Sydney
A group of eminent
international figures have gathered in Sydney to look at ways to curb the spread
of nuclear weapons. The first meeting of the International Commission on Nuclear
Non-proliferation and Disarmament is pulling together fresh ideas ahead of the
2010 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference. The Commission was
co-chaired by Australian Former Foreign Affairs Minister Gareth Evans and Yoriko
Kawaguchi, one of Japan's former Foreign Ministers. A total of 13 commissioners
have been announced, with most to attend the three-day meeting on 20-22 Oct
2008.
India did not attend this newly-established International Commission on Nuclear
Non-proliferation and Disarmament. Retired Pakistani General and diplomat
Jehangir Karamat participated in the conference as a Commissioner. General
Jehangir Karamat departures to Lahore on Thursday, 23rd Oct from Sydney
International Airport.
