NSW GOVERNMENT GIVES $100,000 FOR EARTHQUAKE RELIEF
The NSW Government donated $100,000 towards the Pakistani Earthquake relief effort on 21 December 2005.
The Minister Assisting the Premier on Citizenship Milton Orkopoulos presented a cheque to the Pakistani Consul-General Ejaz Ahmad.
The NSW Government sends it thoughts, prayers and best wishes to the millions affected by this tragedy, said Mr Orkopoulos.
Its important that the people of Pakistan know the world cares about their suffering at this time, he said.
Im pleased that the NSW Government is making this important contribution, said Mr Orkopoulos.
The earthquake was a major catastrophe killing more than 73,000 and leaving an estimated 3.5 million people homeless.
The President of Pakistan Australia Association Mr. Ejaz Khan, President Pakistan Association of Australia Mr. Shabbir Ahmed, Mr. Derryn Webster from the office of the NSW Premier and Syed Zafar Hussain Editor-in-chief of Sada-e-Watan Sydney were also present during the meeting.
Mr Ejaz Ahmad welcomed the donation from the NSW Government saying it was important to Pakistan to know they had supporters and well wishers across the globe.
"The Pakistani community in Australia will be pleased to know that the NSW Government is donating this money to help their families and friends affected by this tragic event, said CG Mr Ahmad.
I thank the NSW Government for their contribution, Consul General of Pakistan Mr. Ejaz Ahmad said.
