Pakistan National Day Celebrated In New Zealand

To mark the Pakistan Day, the High Commission hosted a Reception at the Wellington Club. Hon. Pansy Wong, Minister for Ethnic Affairs, represented the Government of New Zealand on the occasion. Opposition Labour Party was represented by Hon. Chris Carter, Spokesman for Foreign Affairs and former Minister.

The Reception was attended by over 170 local dignitaries, including eight Members of Parliament, senior civil and military officials, diplomats and members of the Pakistani-Kiwi community living in New Zealand.

Earlier, in the morning, a simple and an elegant flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Chancery which was attended by the Pakistani community members living in Wellington and adjoining areas. As customary, on the occasion messages of the President and Prime Minister were read out. At the end of ceremony guests were served high tea.

Pakistan Day was also celebrated with fervour and zeal by the community members in Auckland, Palmerston North, Christchurch and other cities of New Zealand.
