Pakistan Australia Association Melbourne Arranged a National Day Function
(Exclusive Report to Sada-e-Watan by Nadeem Nadvi)

The Pakistan Australia Association Melbourne organised an amazing Independence Day Celebration on the 16th of August 2009 at Pakenham Victoria where a record crowd attended to be entertained by an array of Australia’s finest Pakistani artists. The day had its up and downs starting with a huge struggle (electricity) once that was sorted the show was on its way and what a success it was. Program was hosted by Atia Sadiq Zai, she was a true professional extremely articulate in English a pleasure to listen to. As per tradition the function started with a wonderful recitation of the Al Fatiha by Ms Anysha Gondal and translation by Faris Gondal, followed by the National anthem from both countries.

Haseeb a well known Melbourne based singer performed in style a number of heart touching national songs which electrified the crowd, where they couldn’t resist in joining in and singing along, and dancing to the beat of the music what a fantastic sceptical for everyone there to witness and enjoy.

Dr Iqbal Gondal, the President of Paam highlighted the organisations cause together with its future plans. Chief Guest The High Commissioner of Pakistan to Australia Mr Jalil Abbas Jilani my favourite man in politics mixed his speech to accommodate both our Urdu speaking and English speaking audience and delivered some long lasting advice for both our youth and adults. This was his last appearance in Melb Australia as he is posting to Belgium ; he will dearly be missed as he was a great asset to our Pakistani community.

Mr Sadiq Ullah Khan was awarded for his services to the community by Mr Jalil Abbas our High Commissioner and Dr Iqbal Gondal. Mr Sadiq Ullah Khan gratefully accepted and delivered an emotional informative talk to the audience. PSSA was represented by Mr Mohamad Rafi, who is a very enthusiastic young man together with his group of tigers he endeavours to help our new comers with accommodation and any problems they face when migrating to a new country.

After the speech, kids displayed some fashionable dresses to mark an entry of the fashion show in our Independence Day celebration. Sana, with her younger partner rocked the stage with her ever flexible body. Their stamina, rhythm and their movements were flawless.

During their dance break, Mr Aqueel Syed portrayed the history of Pakistan on the big screen, which had some fascinating facts, unfortunately the audience had difficulty hearing the sound track due to technical difficulties but overall it was commendable effort.

Nadeem Nadvi was called next, this was his first stage performance in Melbourne, and he wasn’t surprised to see the demand of humour here. With the applauses, he received; he will be doing many more shows in Melbourne alone. Thankyou Melbournians!
He departed to make room for a group which according to my observation was the best musical group in Australia. Amad and his friends truly deserve this title. They rocked the audience, as the audience joined in singing and dancing. They were true professionals; they brought our celebration to a very memorable ending.
