Pakistan Australia Friendship Association hosted a dinner in Canberra for Ishtiak Ahmad Khan,Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan
Pakistan Australia Friendship Association hosted a dinner for Mr. Ishtiak Ahmad Khan, Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan on 23 June 2011, who was on an official visit to Australia on the invitation of the Australian Government. The dinner was attended by the Acting High Commissioner, Mr. Tasawar Khan, Executive member of PAFA and some prominent members of Pakistani community in Canberra. The participants availed the opportunity to discuss a wide ranging of issues and subjects, including electoral reforms, transparency, free and fair elections, elimination of bogus votes and right of vote to overseas Pakistanis. Mr. Khan enumerated the efforts made by the Election Commission of Pakistan to ensure holding of free and fair elections in the future. He said that the Government of Pakistan was resolute to strengthen the links of Pakistani Diaspora with their country of origin and is seriously working to grant them the right of vote. He thanked the PAFA for organizing the event, which provided him an opportunity to discuss various ideas with the community.
