NATIONAL DAY OF PAKISTAN CELEBRATED WITH ZEAL IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

(Coverage to Sada-e-Watan by Dr Farah Adeeb, Perth)

National Day of Pakistan was celebrated with traditional zeal in Perth Western Australia. It was a day to commemorate the historical struggle for an independent homeland expressed through Lahore declaration of 1940 under the auspicious leadership of Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

The Pakistani community in Perth gathered to celebrate National Day of Pakistan in an impressive and well-participated ceremony at Morley Sports and Recreation Centre, Morley Hall on 3rd April 2010. The ceremony started with the name of Almighty Allah by the recitation from the Holy Quran along with Urdu and English translation by Zara Asif followed by national anthems of Pakistan and Australia. The President of the Pakistan Association of Western Australia (PAWA) Dr Zarrin Siddiqui delivered a welcoming speech in Urdu. Dr Farah Adeeb read the message from Pakistani High Commissioner, Ms Fauzia Nasreen on the National Day of Pakistan. In her message she reiterated the Quaid’s principle of unity, faith and discipline, which we need to follow and cherish in letter and spirit.

Mr Nazar Ahmed Khan and Mr Ayaz Qaiser performed the role of stage secretary and did a fabulous job. Farooq Mehtab recited Naat in his beautiful voice.

Present on this occasion were notable members of the executive council of PAWA (Syed Nizamuddin Ahmed, Mohammad Zaki, Dr Farah Adeeb, Nazar Ahmed Khan, Ayaz Qaiser, Sumair Sajjad and Dr Zarrin Siddiqui) and a large number of Pakistanis from the Community including women and children. A number of Pakistani students from Curtin University, University of Western Australia and Edith Cowan University also participated in the function with zeal and zest.

On this occasion, Mr Sumair Sajjad along with other colleagues (Sameera, Yasmeen Ghouri, Saad, Tariq, Arif, Dr Wajih Bokhari) sang a few national songs and very popular melodies of Urdu and Punjabi. There were lots of other interesting activities, which drew the attention of audience such as Comedy skit (by Sumair, Sahir and Fahad), tongue twister competition, games for the couple and a competition for drawing Quaid’e Azam Mausoleum. Three kids were invited to debate if their mum is better than their dad.  There was also a singing competition for children under 10 for Pakistani National Songs. The lucky draw ended up with many participants taking small prizes home.

"Tariq Syed, Arif Syed and Sumair Sajjad as in previous years were the backbone of the musical performance this year too. Thanks to Tariq Syed, Arif Syed and Sumair Sajjad for their enormous time and effort they have put in the preparation and participation of this event".

The ceremony ended with a very lavish dinner including mixed vegetable and chicken gravy, fried rice and desserts like Gulab Jaman. Cold drinks and hot tea were also offered. Mr Ayaz Qaiser thanked the participants in his concluding speech.
