Flag Hoisting at Pak High Commission Canberra & Reception by H.E. Fauzia Nasreen
To commemorate the National Day of Pakistan, a flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Chancery premises at Canberra Australia 0900 hours on 23 March 2010. The ceremony was attended by a large number of Pakistanis with their families and Pakistani students studying in various Universities in Canberra.
After the flag hoisting, the messages of the President and the Prime Minister were read out. In her remarks the High Commissioner Ms. Fauzia Nasreen highlighted the importance of the day emphasizing the community members to forge unity and to continue to work hard for promoting Pakistan’s image abroad. She also referred to the important developments in Pakistan and broadly highlighted the achievements of the Government.
A National Day Reception was also held in the evening which was attended by over 250 guests including members of Diplomatic Corp, Members of Parliament, and Important Australian Dignitaries including Australian Chief of Defence Force and Services Chiefs as well as representatives from a cross section of Australian society, government circles and business community. The Reception was also attended by a visiting 35-member delegation of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry .
At the Reception, as customary the Chief of Protocol proposed the toast to the health of the President and people of Pakistan which was reciprocated by the High Commissioner. In her remarks the High Commissioner inter alia emphasized the ever-growing Pakistan-Australia bilateral relations in multifarious fields and conveyed appreciation for the support extended by the Government of Australia.
The Canberra Times also published a special supplement on Pakistan in its 23 March issue, carrying the message of the High Commissioner and articles projecting investment and business potential of Pakistan.
