Acting High Commissioner Tasawar Khan Host a Reception on the occasion of Pakistan Day
To celebrate the auspicious occasion of Pakistan Day, the High Commission for Pakistan held a Reception at Pakistan House on the evening of 23 March 2011. A large number of Australian dignitaries, including Chief of Protocol, Australian Chief of Defence Force, Chief of Air Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, officers of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and other Government officials, notable businessmen and prominent Pakistani-Australians graced the reception with their presence.
After customary proposing of toasts, the Acting High Commissioner Mr. Tasawar Khan highlighted the importance of Pakistan Resolution in the history of Pakistan. He also spoke about the geo-strategic challenges faced by Pakistan in the post 9/11 world. He said that Pakistan has shouldered its international responsibilities with profound commitment and utmost prudence. The Acting High Commissioner reminded that, as frontline state in international efforts against extremism and terrorism, Pakistan has paid and continues to pay a very heavy price. Besides incalculable economic cost, more than 10,000 Pakistani lives have been lost. He reiterated that in partnership with International community, the Government and People of Pakistan remain steadfast and resolute to surmount these challenges regional and international peace and security.
He appreciated the international community including Australia for their understanding and support to Pakistan and expressed satisfaction on the growing relations between the two countries, which are underpinned by a desire to promote stability, development and security for all. A small but vibrant Pakistani community continues to make their contribution to the socio-economic development of Australia. Over 7000 Pakistani students are benefiting from excellent educational opportunities in this country. The prompt and generous response by the Government and People of Australia to recent natural disasters in Pakistan has strengthened the ponds between our two countries.
Mr. Tasawar Khan also expressed sympathy with the people of Queensland, who have confronted devastating floods and cyclone this summer and appreciated their resilience. He also expressed solidarity with the people of Japan. He said that, having suffered unprecedented floods last year, the people of Pakistan can understand and share the pain and anguish caused by such calamities.
The Acting High Commissioner Mr. Tasawar Khan reaffirmed the confidence that with increasing engagement between our two countries, Pakistan-Australia relations will be on even more solid footings in the years to come.
