Tehreek-e-Insaf Australia Celebrates Pakistan Independence Day in Sydney
(Coverage By:
Syed Zafar Hussain, Editor-in-Chief Sada-e-Watan Sydney)
August 14th: As
in previous years, PTI Australia took the lead in organizing Independence day
celebrations on the 14th of August this year too. This is the first occasion
when PTI Australia have simultaneously organized this event in 3 different state
capitals of Australia. We have had the Sydney team organize similar events
before but this time we were joined by very hardworking and committed members of
our Melbourne, Victoria Chapter and the Brisbane Chapter in Queensland. It is a
moment of pride and gratefulness to Allah SWT and a testament to the success of
the PTI mission globally.
The event started with Quran recitation by Sahibzada Nadeem Muazzmy, followed by
Hamd and Naat recitations. The attendance was so high that the Management had to
work really hard to make sure all logistical needs were met as required. This is
a good sign of the popularity of our mission. Asim Saleem delivered a speech in
Urdu about Pakistan’s problems, our dilemma and the solutions we should work
hard to implement. After this we had the Master of ceremony, Sydney’s beloved
Urdu poet Mr.Salik Khawaja warm the hearts of the guests with the words of
Wisdom that may have come out of Allama Iqbal’s pen but are closely related to
our divine mission in this world. The crowd really absorbed and acknowledged his
poetry recitals.
PTI’s first 100 days plan that was revealed recently in Pakistan by our
leadership received positive response from the public and our honorable guests
from the Australian political diaspora – Australian Federal MP Michelle Rowland
and member of Upper House NSW Peter Primrose.
Dr Ghaffer
Kiani, Media Secretary PTI NSW summarised the plan very well after having
personally attended PTI’s 100 days planning meeting held in Islamabad. He
emphasized on five key issues on which PTI will mainly focus during the first
100 days if it comes in to power i.e. withdrawal from war on terror, war against
corruption, economic reforms, education emergency and judicial and police
reforms. A “Q and A” session was conducted at the end of the presentation during
which President PTI Australia NSW Mr.Mehmood Chadhar also answered some
questions.
Australian Federal Labor MP Michelle Rowland and Hon. Member of Upper House NSW
Peter Primrose also very kindly spoke on the occasion.
“Australia and Pakistan share strong bonds-bonds of family, friendship and common purpose. Together, we can all recommit to making the founding ideals of Pakistan – ideals of equality, fraternity, and social and economic justice - we commit to making them real for the people of both our nations” said Peter.
Michelle said that the Pakistani community has played an important role in the development of Australia inall fields ranging from entrepreneurship to academia and from engineering to cricket. She specifically mentioned the name of UsmanKhawaja who recently played for the Australian cricket team that is an honor for all Pakistanis. Commenting on the PTI’s 100 days plan, she hailed education reforms and wished PTI good luck in this regard.
The Chairman Imran Khan’s special personally recorded video message was played
to the audience in which he not only implored all overseas Pakistanis to make
more efforts to work for change in Pakistan but also kindly acknowledged the
hard work and efforts of the PTI Team in Sydney and those newly created ones in
Melbourne and Brisbane. He encouraged the aware to help spread this awareness in
the people around them. This was the highlight of the night as it stirred some
much-needed emotions for change within our guests.
President PTI Australia, Mr Mehmood Ahmed Chadhar expressed his views on the
importance of 14th August and stressed that the people of Pakistan should not
wait any longer to wait for change,as this is the only hope Pakistan has at the
moment. Change has to start from within and it is our Holy duty to strive for
it. He especially thanked the honorable MPs for gracing the occasion of the 64th
Independence Day celebrations by PTI in Sydney.
Mr.Khurram
Qaiser and Farhad Mehmood had especially flown in from Melbourne to perform and
entertain the Sydney community with their political satire, which was thoroughly
enjoyed by all guests.
SOS Pakistan – Feed the children had also sponsored the event and Ms.Rachel
Cruz, the Chairperson of the charity also spoke on the occasion. She expressed
her experience of traveling four times to Pakistan to witness the devastation
and suffering caused by the flood, and all the projects that are currently being
run by the Charity while based in Sydney.
Member executive committee, Mr.Hassan Ashraf Chattha especially designed a Quiz
competition based on facts about Pakistan. The winners of the quiz competition
got a $50 cheque through one of our sponsors and this was a very popular segment
as we all learnt something new.
General Secretary Mr.Farhan Arif, Associate Media Secretary Mr.Nadeem Muazmmy,Finance Secretary Mr.Imtiaz Chaudry, Members of the executive committee Mr.Arman Sajid &Mr.Laeeq Hamid, Mr.Salik Hameed Khawaja, Mr.Asif Qumer and members Mr.Syed Irfan Sohail and Mr.Waqas Bashir were also present and contributed to make event a success.
