His Excellency MR.ABDUL
MALIK ABDULLAH,
High Commissioner of Pakistan Australia
MR AZAM MOHAMMED ,CONSUL GENERAL
OFFICE BEARERS OF PAKISTAN AUSTRALIA ASSOCIATION
RESPECTED ELDERS AND FELLOW COMMUNITY BROTHERS AND SISTERS
ASSALOMOALIKUM,
On behalf of the Australia-Pakistani Community and the Pakistan Association of
Australia, it is my great pleasure to welcome Mr. Abdul Malik Abdullah to
Australia and to this function. We have been looking forward to your visit to
Sydney and to meet you. It was good of the Consul General to host a welcome
dinner in your honour so that we could all meet you. However our association
will also like to host a welcome dinner in your honour as it is the tradition of
our association. We are very glad to see you here and be acquainted with you.
I am sure that once we get to know each other, you would be proud of this community as we are proud of you as our new high commissioner. Even before your arrival to Australia, we had heard many great things about you. Your posting to Australia directly from the Prime Minister Secretariat shows the importance the Pakistan government places on Australia.
as you can see from the gathering and interacting with many, the Pakistan Australia community in Sydney is well placed in this society and has contributed as much to multiculturalism in Australia. Today, there is a good representation of our community encompassing all walks of life. Representing various professions, I am so happy to notice that each and every segment of our community is represented here today. Let me briefly inform you of our community, association and the social work we do.
The Pakistan Association of Australia was established approximately (40) years back as a non political and non profitable organization, dedicated to the welfare and wellbeing of the Pakistani community.
Our community which was hardly five hundred (500) in numbers forty (40) years back has Masha-Allah grown to almost ten thousand (10,000) families. They comprise of professional doctors, engineers, IT specialists, solicitors, businessmen and from various other walks of life.
Though small in numbers in comparison to other ethnic communities, yet we are proud of the fact that we have made substantial contribution to Australian society, especially in the field of medical profession, and generally in all other fields over the period of time.
We work in total harmony
with the Australian community and keep very close and, cordial rapport with the
local people and the parliamentarians. An example of this is the Eid Milan Party
we host in NSW parliament every year. The relationship between the association
and parliamentarians of NSW is evident from 2010 as they helped raise numerous
amounts of money and resources for the Pakistani flood victims.
We as an association with help of our community do a lot of social work. Again
as an example, let me mention that the association plans to build a community
centre, which will not only serve as a focal venue for our social and
recreational activities, but will also provide a temporary abode to new
immigrants coming from Pakistan.
I would like to acknowledge the support and great contribution of security international , best and less travels, silver smash repairs, Sada-e-Watan Sydney, Paklink Australia and Citilink finance who have always sponsored our activities and stood by us whenever required.
Taking this opportunity I
would like to make an announcement on behalf of Muhammad Asif, CEO, Citilink and
senior banker Noor Ahmad that Citilink has created Islamic financing products
due to the high demand felt by many members from our community and other Muslim
ethnic communities.
I congratulate Citilink finance for working so hard on Sharia compliant products
and surely they will be the first one to introduce this product soon in
Australia on a very large scale. So let us give them a big hand.
There are many things to say but there will be many other occasions to inform you on all aspects of our community and our joys, apprehensions and expectations. Due to shortage of time, I will end by once again thanking you for coming to Sydney and hope you will give the Association an opportunity to formally welcome you soon.
