Jalil Abbas Jilani Briefed Australian Members of Parliaments about Pakistan & Regional Situation

Committee on Defence, Foreign Affairs and Trade in the Australian Parliament
invited the High Commissioner for Pakistan, Mr. Jalil Abbas Jilani to share
Pakistan’s perspective on the Regional Security Situation.
The High Commissioner Syed Jalil Abbas Jilani briefed the Committee about the
state of Pakistan-India relations in the aftermath of Mumbai terrorist attacks
and the imperatives of peace between two nuclear neighbours. He informed the
members that Pakistan had conducted its own investigations in a serious,
transparent and professional manner, satisfactory to the International
Community. It was important that the peace process resumed without further
delay.
The High Commissioner Mr. Jalil Jilani briefed the Committee members about the
efforts made by the Government in restoring peace in FATA and Swat and clarified
misgiving about the peace deal.
Sharing Pakistan’s perspective on the situation in Afghanistan, Mr. Jalil Abbas
Jilani apprised the members of the Committee about the essential steps for a way
forward. The High Commissioner of Pakistan advocated a multifaceted,
comprehensive and balanced approach enjoying the support of regional countries.
He said that the new US Administration’s decision to involve Pakistan in the
Afghan Policy review was prudent.
The Members of the Committee expressed strong support and appreciation of the
contributions being made by Pakistan in bringing peace in the region.
