On Tuesday 31st March a gathering of 65 patriotic
Pakistani's with an interest in Alzheimer's and Pakistan attended an Alzheimer's
Pakistan discussion forum with it's Chairperson Professor Madam Yasmin Rashid
(Ex-President Pakistan Medical Association and Alzheimer's International
Member).
Alzheimer's Pakistan is the National Organization of Alzheimer's and related
dementias. The main objective of this non government organization is to work
towards the welfare of people suffering from dementia and their care givers.
Alzheimer's Pakistan is run by volunteers from all walks of life, who have
dedicated themselves for this noble cause.
The purpose of the evening was to raise awareness and funds to support the work
of Alzheimer's Pakistan. A presentation by Professor Yasmin Rashid about
dementia and Alzheimer's and it's social impact was the focus of the discussion.
The medical and social prognosis of Alzheimer's and dementia prompted an
insightful discussion on the positive role of Alzheimer's Pakistan and it's
missions to raise general awareness on Alzheimer's and related disorders, to
train Doctors further in diagnosing and treating dementia and to offer support
services to the families with Alzheimer’s patients.
The evening was closed with donations reaching approximately $2100.00, and some
wonderful shayree by Noshi Gillani and Saeed Khan. A heartfelt thank you from
the organisers to all those who attended including Consul General of
Pakistan Mr. Azam Mohammed, world renowned former Pakistani cricket
Captain Mr. Waqar Younis, President of PAA Mr. Ejaz Khan & Syed Zafar Hussain
Editor in Chief Sada-e-Watan Sydney. Also, a special thanks to Nadeem Sheikh for his
community spirit in helping organise and execute the evening.
