Pakistan participated in South Asian Film Festival held at Canberra

Behalf of Heads of Missions of South Asian countries, H.E. Jalil Abbas Jilani, highlighted the richness of Asian culture

Pakistan participated in the first ever South Asian Film Festival held in Canberra from 28th November to 01 December 2008. The Festival was organized by the South Asian Diplomatic Missions in Canberra, in collaboration with Tuggeronong Art Centre. Other participants were Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The Chief Guest Hon. John Hargreaves, MLA, ACT Minister for Multicultural Affairs, lauded the South Asian Diplomatic Missions for their initiative and joint efforts to bring their art and culture to the people of Australia. He proposed that henceforth the South Asian Film Festival should be held regularly as part and parcel of Annual Tuggeronong Festival.

Speaking on behalf of Heads of Missions of South Asian countries, His Excellency Mr. Jalil Abbas Jilani, High Commissioner for Pakistan, highlighted the richness of Asian culture, literature, architecture and performing arts. He said that the Festival has provided a unique opportunity not only to enjoy the best Asian movies, but, to foster better understanding of Asian values and cultures. He thanked the officials of Tuggeronong Art Centre for supporting the initiative and organizing the Festival.

The High Commission for Pakistan presented
“Khuda Kay Liye” and “Ramchand Pakistani” at the Festival, which were highly appreciated by the viewers.
