Salim Ghauri appointed as Australia’s Honorary Consul

Chairman NetSol Technologies Ltd Pakistan, a multinational provider of enterprise software Mr. Salim Ghauri, has been appointed as the first Australian Honorary Consul to the province of Punjab. According to a spokesperson of Netsol The Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Zorica McCarthy, acting on behalf of Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, extended recognition of a new Honorary Consul for the province of Punjab, Pakistan.
Mr. Salim Ghauri was bestowed the role of becoming the first Honorary Consul for the province of Punjab in Pakistan at a ceremony attended by Ms. McCarthy at Lahore. Pakistan has been declared one of the top emerging countries in the region according to Australia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ghauri in his role as exequatur will have the aim of enhancing business relations between the two nations, to promote cross investment, trade and commerce opportunities, and address any challenges that may be faced by companies and investors doing business in Pakistan.
Speaking at recognition ceremony, Ms. McCarthy stated, ‘The appointment of the first honorary-consul in Lahore is representative of the rising economic and cultural interests between Australia and Pakistan. Australian High Commissioner said that Lahore is home to many Pakistani Australians and as the capital of the Punjab province it is an important center of intellectual as well as cultural discourse and is pivotal to the economic development of Pakistan. Lahore’s importance as a commercial center increasingly features the high tech arena, where bilateral business opportunities continue to grow and Australia’s strengths are recognized by local leaders.

Mr. Ghauri commented, "I am honored and delighted to have been bestowed the role of Australia's Honorary Consul to the Government of Punjab. I also extend my gratitude to the Australian government for choosing me for such a critical assignment. This is a remarkable period for Pakistan when both the Karachi Stock Exchange and foreign direct investments have been at an all time high this year." Mr. Ghauri concluded, "As such, this is an important period in time to further develop ties between Pakistan and Australia in addition to other governments spurring foreign trade and the global economy."

Mr. Ghauri received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from University of Punjab in Lahore, Pakistan. Before NetSol Technologies  Ltd. Mr. Ghauri was employed with BHP in Wollongong, Australia from 1987-1995, where he commenced his employment as a consultant.
A few years ago, Mr. Salim Ghauri was living in Australia. Mr. Salim Ghauri was the secretary of Pakistan Association of Wollongong(PAW) and Mr. Tahir Malik was the President of the Association. Mr. Salim Ghauri was a regular reader & supporter of Sada-e-Watan Sydney. He is also the younger brother of Federal Minister Mr. Babar Ghauri. Sada-e-Watan Sydney would like to congratulate our friend Mr. Ghauri on the appointment of Australia’s Honorary Consul in Punjab Pakistan.

 

Retraction of the news about Mr Salim Ghauri

The management and the editorial team of Sada-e- Watan is deeply regretful that, an article published in the online version of our publication of 05-09- 2007, made an erroneous reference to Mr Salim Ghauri, claiming him to be a brother of a certain Mr Babar Ghauri. We can categorically and irrefutably confirm that this reference was not correct and that to our knowledge Mr Salim Ghauri has no family relationship to the aforementioned Mr Babar Ghauri.

Mr Salim Ghauri is an executive of NetSol Technologies and an upstanding Citizen of Australia and Pakistan and we regret and apologise for any harm to him, or any of his family members' standing in the community, that may have been caused by this article and the erroneous reference.
