Exclusive Report to Sada-e-Watan for SBS TV Programme "Insight" on Pakistan

Following the death of Osama bin Laden in a covert operation by US forces in Abbotabad, Pakistan has come under the sharp focus of international media. There undue negativity was spread based on either lack of information or under an agenda to bring more pressure on Pakistan. Questions were also raised about Pakistan’s commitment and capacity to combat terrorism. How do Pakistan’s leaders would strike balance between their cooperation with the West on the one hand and anti-US sentiment among the population on the other. The fears of reprisal attacks became a reality after the heavily armed gunmen attacked a naval base in the country's biggest city Karachi.

Against this background, SBS TV "Insight" programme invited approximately fifty participants to discuss the theme "Trusting Pakistan". The prominent amongst the participants were the Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan, Mr. Tasawar Khan, Professor Dr. Samina Yasmin, Director of the Centre for Muslim States and Societies at the University of Western Australia, Professor Amin Saikal, Director of the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies (The Middle East and Central Asia) at the Australian National University and Brigadier Retired Naeem Salik. A number of Australian nationals and some prominent Pakistani Australians also participated in the discussion. The programme can be viewed online at:

As a follow up of SBS TV "Insight' program, Mr. Rehan Alvi, interviewed a number of Participants of the programme for sharing their views and reviews on the topic of "Trusting Pakistan". He spoke to the Acting High commissioner of Pakistan, Mr. Tasawar Khan, Professor Samina Yasmin of University of Western Australia, Dr Kausar Jamal and Saeed Khan.
