Save the Sheikh BBQ, mainly organized by Rev Father David Smith of the Holy Trinity Church in Dulwich Hill, Sydney turned out to be the most successful event in the campaign of all the Australian communities against the deportation of the Iranian Cleric Dr Sheikh Mansour Leghaei. Sheikh Mansour is at the verge of deportation from Australia because the ASIO gave two adverse assessments about him. The Agency alleged that he is a threat to the Australian Security. No one knows what the allegations are! Even the MRT which confirmed the decision of the Immigration Department of rejecting his application for permanent residence admitted that they have no access to the ASIO reports.
The BBQ on 28th of March in the steel park of Marrickville, Sydney attracted more than thousand people from various religions and cultural background. They resolved to show their strong support for the Sheikh in his fight for justice and fair go. Many men and women prayed in the park behind the Sheikh.
The Aboriginal leader pastoral Ray promised his strong support in the just cause of the Sheikh. Father Dave, who constructed a website www.savethesheikh.com, spoke passionately. He said “My Christian brothers Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and the Minister of Immigration Minister should come down and see the emotions of the community which will be deprived from his services if he would be deported” “ Sheikh is a Godly man and not a political person. Famous boxer, Nader Hamaden said “The Sheikh is a role model for me and for hundred Australian youth. His deportation shall put a big creak in the wider Australian community”
