Mushaira 2011 in Sydney

Renowned Urdu poets from Pakistan Mr Haleem Qureshi,Mr Izhar-ul-Haq and Syed Salman Gillani participated in Mushaira as overseas guest poets.
Urdu Forum Australia organized International Urdu Mushaira 2011 in Sydney,Wollongong and Gold Coast in October 2011.The Sydney Mushaira was held on Saturday 15 October 2011 at Himalaya Restaurant and Function Hall, Granville and was attended by an elite gathering of dignitaries, guests and patrons from the Pakistani,Indian and South Asian communities.Senior Poet and writer from India Janab Om Krishan Rahat presided over the function and Janab Haleem Qureshi attended as the Guest of Honour.Mrs Huma Mirza and Arif Sadiq hosted the event.
Urdu Forum’s Chairman Dr Shabbir Haider welcomed all guests and patrons and paid special tribute to all sponsors and media partners for their cooperation and support.He also extended condolences at the death of renowned Urdu poet and writer from India Prof. Sajida Zaidi,her sister Ms Zahida Zaidi,Dr Badar Qadri and Mohtarma Alia Khatoon.Dr. Shabbir Haider highly appreciated the unique community services of Sada-e-Watan Sydney and "Syed Brothers" Syed Zafar Hussain and Syed Javed Hussain.
The first session started with the poetry recitals by local poets Mr Tariq Mirza, Mrs Yasmin Zaidi,Mr Tauqir Hasnain,Mrs Farida Lakhany,Mr Rehan Alavi,Mrs Farhat Iqbal and Mrs Huma Mirza.Mr Raees Alavi from Tokyo, Japan presented a beautiful ghazal and Japanese style of three-line poems (hyco).
Guest poet Syed Salman Gilani is well known for his humour.His comic poems were very well enjoyed by the audience.After the first session, a sumptuous dinner was served to all guests and patrons.
The second session was started by Mr Arif Sadiq with a poem ‘Visal Mausam’ and a ghazal. Mrs Kaneez Fatima Kiran recited her new poem “Dar Lagne Laga Hai” .Dr Fazal Hussain Urfi, a young poet from Brisbane (Queensland) recited a Naat and ghazal.Syed Najam Sibtain Hasni,also from Brisbane (Queensland) presented beautiful ghazals.Dr Shabbir Haider recited his ghazal with tarannam.
Janab Muhammad Izhar-ul-Haq is an innovative Urdu poet who has given new dimensions to Urdu Ghazal and Nazam with his rich linguistic and cultural refinement. He recited some of his beautiful ghazals.
Janab Haleem Qureshi is a leading contemporary Urdu poet who is respected all over the world for his meticulous and distinguished style in Urdu Ghazal.Janab Haleem Qureshi recited his famous ghazals which were thoroughly applauded by the audience.It was past mid-night when Janab Om Krishan Rahat was requested to recite his poetry.He recited beautiful ghazals that were enjoyed by the audience.In his closing address,Dr Shabbir Haider, once again thanked the poets, guests and patrons for their participation and support and announced that Urdu Forum will hold even bigger Mushairas in future.
