Pakistani Acting High Commissioner in Australia H.E.Mr.Tasawar Khan visited Parklea Gurdwara (Glenwood Sydney) on 26 June 2011 (Sunday)
In
his address Mr.Tasawar Khan shared that he has spent 4 years at Nankana Sahib
(birth place of founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev ji) hence he has developed
great affection for Sikh brothers. His parents had moved from Ludhiana in India
during partition and their nostalgia has been instrumental in strengthening this
affection for the people coming from that area.
Mr.Tasawar Khan informed that there are over 20000 Sikhs and 50 Gurdwaras in
Pakistan including the famous "Janam Asthan" in Nankana Sahib and Punja Sahib in
Hassan Abdal.These historical adn holy sites of Sikhs are maintained by a
Pakistani Governmental body, the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Commitee.
Pakistan is amongst the few countries of the world, where the Government has
enacted the Sikh Marraige Act, Anand Marriage Act (2007). The Sikh marriage act
not only allows Sikhs in Pakistan but also Sikhs living anywhere in the world to
register in Pakistan with the Sikh marriage act.
He invited the community to fulfill their religious obligations and visit
Gurdwaras in Pakistan and promised every assistance in visa processing. There
was tremendous excitement in community for visiting Pakistan hence they greeted
the visiting dignitary by raising slogans of "Bole So Nihal Sat Sri Akal" .
Mr.Tasawar Khan thanked Australian Sikh Association committee comprising
President Mr.Surinder Singh Multani, Secretary Mr Jagtar Singh& Chairman Mr
Harjit Singh Somal for the invitation to visit the largest Sikh Centre in
Australia. He also thanked Dr. GS Sidhu, Dr.Moninder Singh, Balraj Sangha, and
Mr.Ejaz Khan for facilitating his visit to the Sikh Centre.Gurdwara committee
presented memento to the visiting dignitary.Mr.Tasawar Khan intermingled with
the community and joined in Langar (free meal) the tradition started by Guru
Nanak Dev.
