Travel Tax on Airline Tickets Purchased from Pakistan

The Government of Pakistan has decided to impose an excise duty on international air travel on the basis of travel destination instead of a fixed 15 percent tax on tickets.
The new tax will be effective from August 1. According to a Central Board of Revenue (CBR) statement released from Islamabad, passengers travelling in economy and economy plus class to SAARC countries, the UAE, Middle East, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Africa and Afghanistan will pay Rs 1,500 excise duty on the air ticket.
Passengers travelling to China, Europe, USA, Canada, South America, Australia, and East Asia in economy and economy plus class will pay Rs 2,500 excise duty on the air ticket. Hajj passengers, diplomats and passengers in transit will be exempt from excise duty.
