A Letter of Prof.Janice Reid
Please
Support for the people of Pakistan
Dear Colleagues,
We are all deeply saddened by the impact of the recent floods in Pakistan and
our thoughts go out to those with families who have lost loved ones, have
relatives seriously injured, or have lost their homes or livelihoods.
In order to lend our support to the people of Pakistan, the University of
Western Sydney will be making a $10,000 donation to the Australian Red Cross.
The UWS community is a compassionate community and, as in similar relief efforts
in the past, UWS staff and students have expressed a desire to collectively
contribute to the relief effort. Whilst we would like to establish a central
fund, advice indicates that it is faster and easier for people to donate
directly to the key agencies coordinating aid and
relief appeals.
Some of these agencies include:
* Australian Red Cross Pakistan Flood appeal - 1800 811 700 -
www.redcross.org.au/Pakistan_floods_2010.htm
* Unicef - 1300 884 233- www.unicef.org.au
* Care Australia
Pakistan Flood Appeal - 1800 020 046 -

* Oxfam Australia - 1800 088 110 - www.oxfam.org.au
* World Vision Pakistan
Flood Appeal - 13 32 40 -

* Save the Children
Australia Pakistan Flood Relief - 1800 760 011 -

* Salvation Army Australia - 13 72 58 - www.salvos.org.au
At this time I would
also like to remind staff of the UWS staff giving
program whereby you can make automatic deductions from your pay to
selected charities including Oxfam and the Salvation Army - charities
who are often at the forefront in providing relief in natural disasters
such as these. To find out more, please visit
