Mir Shahjahan Khetran Chairman Intellectual Property Organization Pakistan is on official visit of Australia
Mir Shahjahan Khetran, Chairman, Intellectual Property Organization – Pakistan, is officially visiting Australia from 21 to 25 February 2011, to attend. “WIPO Regional Workshop on Madrid System of International Registration of Marks”. He arrived Canberra from Singapore, where he had earlier attended the “WIPO Regional Conference on Intellectual Property and Economic Development: challenges and Opportunities” from 16-17 February 2011.
The focus of the Workshop in Canberra is Intellectual Property Rights and Economic Development, Access to Health, Climate Change. Public Policy, New Technologies, Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultures, Challenges, Opportunities and Procedural/documentation aspects.
Mir Shahjahan Khetran is a highly qualified, learned and dynamic personality with vast and diverse experience. He belongs to Balochistan. He did his graduation from prestigious Government College (GC) University Lahore. After that he joined Bell College of Cambridge and successfully completed his DEL from there. He did his Master degree in Political Science from University of the Punjab. He served as first Economic Minister of Pakistan at Saudi Arabia from 1995 to 1997. He has expertise in Capital Markets of Pakistan with vast experience in financial products and investments. He is member of the Islamabad Stock Exchange, since its inception and is well conversant with various sectors of national economy. He had been Chairman of Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO-Pakistan) since 26th August, 2009.
Mr. Tasawar Khan, Acting High Commissioner has welcomed the visit of Chairman IPO-Pakistan to Australia. Being a signatory to Trade Related Intellectual property Rights, Agreement (TRIPs) under WTO, Pakistan required upgradation of its intellectual property infrastructure in tandem with global trends. The IPO-Pakistan is the key organization to meet Pakistan’s international obligations, which requires promulgation and consistent up-gradation and revision of existing legislation on Intellectual Property i.e. Copyrights, Patents and Trademarks.
