(Report by

Mr. Yousuf Jamal, Ombudsman of Sindh
Province last week attended an International conference held in Sydney. He
was welcomed by the Consul General of Pakistan Mr. Ejaz Ahmed & other senior
Australian officials. Mr. Yousaf Jamal stayed in Sydney for three days.
Sada –e- Watan Sydney would like to add a few words about Mr. Yousuf Jamal’s
background. He is among the very senior bureaucrats of Pakistan. He had topped
in the Central Superior Services (CSS) Examination of 1963 all over the country
(including the then East & West Pakistan), securing record marks. He retained
first position in order of merit in the final passing out examination of the
C.S.P Academy Lahore.
Mr. Yousuf Jamal, a gold medallist of University of Karachi, stood first in M.A.
(Political Science) examination. Later, he went to Cambridge University UK for
his in-service training to qualify a course in Development Economics and Public
administration for a full academic year.
Amongst varied assignments held by him, Mr. Yousuf Jamal also served as Deputy
Commissioner Sukkur, Administrator KMC, Managing Director SITE, Secretary
Information Government of Sindh and Member Sindh Public Service Commission.
Speaking on the
role of the office of Sindh ombudsman, he said that since its establishment 12
years back, around 90,000 complaints have been received, and of them 20,000
pertained to the federal ombudsman which were lodged by the people owing to lack
of knowledge. The break-up of the 70,000 complaints which pertained to the Sindh
ombudsman shows that annually on average 6,000 complaints were lodged.
The Ombudsman Mr. Yousuf Jamal, called the access to justice programme (AJP) the
single biggest judicial programme ever in the history of the country and added
that if implemented in its true sense, it would help in the dispensation of
cheap justice to masses.
